“Oliver Garcia designed such a beautiful

collection that, especially in the context

on my character, tells such a story of her

evolution within the movie. A lot of corsetry

to begin with and then we found a way to

embed the corset into the dress so that it

wasn't as hellish to wear, which was a thrilling

realisation over halfway through filming, but

I was still very grateful to be able to breathe…

It was really shocking to realise all the ways

in which that restrains women. It restrains

your breathing, so your movement is really

limited, and obviously compresses your lungs.

You’re kind of physically withheld and then it

also makes your voice higher, because of the

way that it's compressing your lungs. All of

these elements that were then projected onto

women were because of the very physical ways

they were being constrained.”
