SAMARA WEAVING COVERS WONDERLAND’S SUMMER 2020 ISSUE

After auditioning for what was then framed as an
‘unnamed project’, Samara Weaving was cast in
Ryan Murphy’s new Netflix show Hollywood without
ever having met the Glee, Pose and American Horror
Story director. Set in the Golden Age of Hollywood,
the series follows a group of young actors, writers
and producers hustling to catch a lucky break, as
the will to make it drives each of their storylines.
For aspiring actor Jack (David Corenswet), it’s
disguised as a valiant effort to provide for his family,
while for screenwriter Archie (Jeremy Pope),
producer Raymond (Darren Criss) and actor
Camille (Laura Harrier), it’s tied up with a sincere
and unprecedented push for equality. For
Weaving’s character Claire, it’s a cry for attention.

For our Summer 2020 Issue, Weaving talks through
her process for the layered and complex character,
as well as what it was like to work with Murphy and
her hopes that the show will reignite conversation
around equality in Hollywood. Speaking about her
own experience navigating the industry, Weaving
shares how she’s felt both overlooked and valued
by her peers at times, and how acting has helped
her access different sides of herself. Having
recently starred in action-comedy GUNS AKIMBO
alongside Daniel Radcliffe, she also recalls one
standout story from set involving a secret
Harry Potter tattoo...
