"What attracted me to Marienne, specifically,

was that she was different from Joe’s previous

love interests. She had her own broken pieces

and her own wounds, but she wasn’t going to

let them define her or hold her back. She had

this different strength and realism about her

and a different relationship with Joe, that I think

was more understanding in a way and more

grounded in both of their deepest or core truths,

so I was interested in exploring what that meant

in terms of Joe’s arc and the larger message Sera

intended to send with the show itself.”
